Thursday would once again see us make our way along a dried river bed, we would then come up to a public road. At last a sign of civilisation in the desert however it was short lived. Our camels would again have to take an alternative route as we where heading over rocky and dangerous terrain, we all stocked up on water carrying almost five litres each.
We trekked for the next couple of hours until our next break at the Arched Cannon. A cannon of rocks with an arch shape formed in the rocks. It was also a chance for our Bedouin guide to show us how they entertain theirselves with a game something similar to X’s and O’s and their was no shortage of challengers. We would make our way along the mountain range taking in some spectacular sights, We would stop for lunch at Bir El Birya where we would come across a well still used today. In the afternoon we came across some steep climbs and then seen electrical pylons in the distance giving us encouragement that we where not far away from our finish line at the Red Sea.
In the evening our Bedouin friends entertained us with singing and dancing, within no time we where joining in and showing them how the Irish like to enjoy a good party. The Bedouin showed us a few of their party tricks, showing off their strength and flexibility.
Over the last few days we had developed a strong bond with the Bedouin people and we really felt they took to us as well, the whole group admired the way they tackled life with few comforts or luxuries. Their detailed knowledge of the vast region of Sinai was mind blowing putting any sat nav to shame.
