Action Cancer is a Northern Ireland cancer charity, established in 1973 by cancer specialist Dr George Edelstyn. The founder's vision for the future was that people in Northern Ireland would be free from the risk of cancer.

Action Cancer continues the fight for freedom from cancer and they maintain a pioneering role in the development of cancer services.

Each of us will know someone in our own circle of family or friends, whose life has been touched by cancer. With cancer set to become the biggest killer early this new millennium and Northern Ireland suffering from one of the highest incidences of the disease, Action Cancer is committed to leading the fight for freedom from cancer in our community.

By donating money or your time as a volunteer you will be helping Action Cancer to fight cancer, save lives and help people living with cancer in Northern Ireland. All the funds raised by Action Cancer are spent on services and research here.

Action Cancer works right across Northern Ireland providing:

Early detection services for the Northern Ireland community
Counseling and support services for cancer patients and their families
Research at local universities
Cancer prevention
Health promotion

Action Cancer is proud to announce that its new state-of-the-art Mobile Resource Centre- nicknamed the
'BIG BUS' - is now on the road and travelling to over 200 locations per year, covering every area of Northern Ireland. The launch of this multi-purpose resource centre marks a new era in Action Cancer's cancer prevention and support services.

Services provided on the BIG BUS include:

Digital breast screening.
Health promotion.
Health checks for men and women.
A new support scheme called the Listening Ear Service
Complementary therapies will be offered to cancer patients, their carers and families.
